If you are planning to visit Costa Rica we would like to invite
you to have the most extraordinary rainforest experience by staying with
us at Casa Corcovado. The lodge is the closest to Corcovado National Park,
the last remaining Pacific lowland rainforest of sustainable size in Central
America. Located on the Osa Peninsula in southwestern Costa Rica, Corcovado
is the "crown jewel" of a world-renowned national park system.
Including thirteen separate ecosystems, almost one thousand species of trees
and nearly four hundred species of birds, Corcovado has been called "the
most biologically intense place on earth" by no less an authority than
the National Geographic Society. Here among the largest trees of Costa Rica,
can be found the densest population of tapirs, jaguars and scarlet macaws
in Meso-America.
Preserving the rainforest is vital because already one half of the earth's
rainforest has been destroyed, fifty acres a minute, an are of the size
of New York state every year. Gone will be the rainforest where 25% of our
prescription drugs have already been found and where many others wait to
be discovered. The world's first studies of tropical forest canopies were
done in Corcovado. Because of the astonishing variety of unknown life forms
discovered within these "hidden worlds" the estimation of life
upon this planet had to be increased twenty fold.
Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge, tucked away in the trees and cooled by the
Pacific Ocean, is a 170 acre private reserve bordering Corcovado National
Park. Carefully designed and built by an American naturalist with twenty
years of local experience, this unique lodge offers accommodations constructed
with the highest concern for conservation and in harmony with the landscape
and the environment. Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge provides the ideal base
for your in-depth rainforest experience.
There are no roads to Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge, access is only by
motor launch from the remote town of Sierpe, located on a wide winding river
of the same name. The adventure begins two hours before your arrival as
the launch leaves the river and follows the Pacific Coast. Since the fishing
is usually quite good, don't be surprised if your first meal at the lodge
is one you might have caught yourself. Your accommodations at this "Lost
World" are individual bungalows offering tiled floors, hot showers
and ceiling fans.
The Lodge supplied with mountain spring water is surrounded by virgin
rainforest and fruit trees which draw birds, monkeys and other animals.
Electricity is provided 24 hours a day by hydroelectric and solar systems
which are non-polluting and non-intrusive so as not to alter the natural
order and behavior of this unique wildlife. Discover the vibrant life of
the rainforest on a guided tour or investigate on your own. Enjoy beachcombing
on our half-kilometer long sand beach and then refresh yourself under a
waterfall or bathe in a shaded pool. Offshore lies Caño Island, an
ancient Indian burial ground. Picnic on a white sand beach sheltered by
coconut palms and snorkel among the coral reefs that surround this tropical
paradise.
Our goal is to provide personalized service to limited number of guests
while promoting rainforest conservation. Besides offering the most practical
access to Corcovado National Park of any Lodge in Costa Rica, Casa Corcovado
is also the closest lodge to Caño Island Biological Reserve, a diver's
paradise. Scuba diving is available so you can experience the wonder of
these waters. Guided tours to both the park and the island are included
in Casa Corcovado's multi-day packages. A kayak excursion to San Josecito,
a beautiful swimming beach, with a box lunch could be another high-light
of your stay or enjoy sportfishing in the amazing waters of the Pacific.
Comfortable accommodations, delicious unforgettable meals, interesting
and informative guides and easy accessibility to both Corcovado National
Park and Caño Island Biological Reserve, is not all that's offered
by Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge. A sense of sharing the adventure while making
new friends, learning and participating in a cultural experience unlike
any other and earning a broader understanding of the fragile ecology of
the rainforest will make this a voyage to remember for a lifetime. Anything
less is just a vacation.
