The Costa Rica Southern Zone starts at the Mountain of Death and goes to the southern port town of Golfito in the Osa Peninsula which the National Geographic describes as unique in the world. The mountains can be quite chilly and Golfito and the Osa quite hot and muggy. The roads go from bad to non-existent in certain areas so we recommend flying so as not to waste all day getting there.
