Mawamba Lodge is located at the beach in the midst of the Tortuguero National Park, a Tropical Rain Forest, in the Northern part of the Caribbean coast. Tortuguero is a navigable network of lakes and channels that crosses this National Park from Southeast to Northwest. This allows a great diversity of fauna and flora of the region to be seen close at hand. Additionally it is the most important nesting site in the western half of the Caribbean for the Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas). The turtles nest at Tortuguero beach where Mawamba is located.
Located on a sand bar between Tortuguero Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. The Lodge has 36 comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, ceiling fans and rocking chairs for pleasant relaxing evening. Hotel facilities include two docks on the canals, swimming pool, jacuzzi, a family style restaurant with international and local cuisine, BBQ, an honor bar, souvenirs shop, relaxing ranchos with hammocks, natural trails, walking beach access, volleyball beach court, and a conference room where daily lectures on Tortuguero's National History are presented.
The Lodge offers tours to the canals of the National Park, observation of the turtle nesting (seasonal July through September), hikes into the lush rain forests of the area, bird watching and fishing tours, which are conducted and supervised by specially trained guides, using first class equipment all necessary safety precautions.
The Lodge is accessible combining bus transfer from San Jose to Matina and a river boat trip through the canals, which is a magnificent experience by itself. Also, there are private and domestic charter flights from San Jose. Regular packages include round trip transfers from San Jose, soft drinks on the boats, all meals at the Lodge, tours on the canals and lodging depending on the number of nights of the package selected. |
